Graduate in mechanical engineering at IIT Delhi and holder of Masters of business administration degree at IIM Ahmedabad, Chetan Bhagatstarted his career as an investment banker but left it after a few years to pursue writing. To escape the monotony of his job, to find happiness which he experienced while writing plays for college events, Bhagat started writing and this marked the inception of history creation.

He never expected it to become a runaway success; all he had hoped for was to gift his “hobby book” to friends from IIT. It was not meant to launch him on an author’s career,but it changed his life. It gave him a new profession, a new path and a level of recognition he could never have imagined. As of today, it has sold more than a million copies, unprecedented in Indian publishing. His second novel, One Night @ the Call Center, was published in 2005 and became a best-seller. In March 2008, third novel, the 3 Mistakes of My Life, was published and sold five lakh copies in three months. One Arranged Murder, The Girl in Room 105, What Young India Wants, India Positive, One IndianGirl, Making India Awesome,Half Girlfriend, Revolution 2020, 2 States are the names of yet other famous novels of Mr. Bhagat. Every novel of his was loved by readers and there was no looking back.

  • Five Point Someone-Five Point Someone is a novel about three friends from different backgrounds, who are dealing with pressure and struggling to achieve better grades at IIT. The novel was loved by every student who could relate to high level of stress when it comes to studies,although while having best friends around. No doubt, it inspired the movie “Three Idiots” starring Aamir Khan in 2009. It still is one of the favorite movies of people in India.
  • 2 states: The Story of My marriage -Based on Chetan Bhagat’s own life, the novel brought out the unpleasant truth present in Indian society when it comes to marriage. When two people from different caste or religion fall in love, it is a big deal in Indian society and even parents do not show support. But, after considering everyone’s point of view and keeping patience, and after a lot of flattering the love interest’s parents, let’s say, love conquers all. It inspired the movie “Two States”, starring Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor and the movie was another hit.
  • The 3 Mistakes of my Life -The novel revolves around moral, social and religious dilemmas, and was successful in making hearts melt and in some cases, even tears roll down. Based in the city of Ahmedabad, the book is about cricket, religion, business, love and friendship. The story deepened describing the Bhuj earthquake and infamous Gujarat riots which took place in reality.Bollywood movie “Kai Po Che” was inspired by it, which brought limelight to the three young talented actors, the late Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Rao and Amit Sadh, who did quite well in industry after the release.
  • One Night @ The Call Center -The story about six friends working in a Call Center is exciting and gets you goosebumps a few times when you turn pages. These friends are dealing with their own set of problems, but then one night, a call from someone special changes the way they perceive life. The novel was first to have turned into a movie, “Hello” in 2008.
  • Half Girlfriend-Half Girlfriend inspired a movie by the same name starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor and is the most recent release. Depicting the cultural differences once again, the novel tells a story of a young Bihari boy, who doesn’t even speak proper English but falls in love with a high-class English speaking rich girl from Delhi. It is a story written for teenagers who are never sure how they feel about someone until it is too late. There are misunderstandings and immaturity which breaks up good friendships and no doubt, youngsters were able to relate to the excellent storyline.
